Instagram just dropped three major updates—and they’re all about making it easier to connect with the people you care about most. Whether you’re into sharing content, finding cool new spots, or staying in the loop with your inner circle, here’s what’s new:
The long-awaited repost feature is officially live! You can now reshare Reels, posts, and carousels directly to your feed. Reposts will appear both in your followers’ feeds and in a new “Reposts” tab on your profile.
Why it matters: This is a win for creators and brands. It’s now easier than ever to highlight UGC (user-generated content), showcase community shoutouts, and share content that aligns with your brand voice. Plus, creators can increase their reach when they create content that’s share-worthy.
Taking a page from Snapchat’s playbook, Instagram has launched a Friend Map feature. You can opt into location sharing with close friends, mutual followers, or a custom list of your choosing. (It’s off by default—so no worries if you’re not into broadcasting your whereabouts.)
Even if you don’t share your location, you can still explore the map to discover location-tagged Stories and posts from others in your area.
Pro tip: Use this feature to scope out real-time local content or find new creators near you.
There’s now a dedicated Friends tab at the top of the Reels feed, showcasing content your friends have liked, commented on, or otherwise interacted with.
Coming soon: new privacy controls will let you manage what shows up in this tab—including the ability to hide your own activity or mute specific people.
The bottom line? Instagram is leaning into connection. Whether you’re curating content, checking out what your friends are into, or exploring the world through their lens, these updates are designed to bring you closer to your friends.
